The environment is a hot topic – literally. This is not the time to stick our heads in the sand, it’s time to address environmental impact issues that affect us globally. Our area is in EPA region 8 (mountains & plains). When I was in the National Park service I dealt with several waste and clean-up sites due to poor practices and lack of regulations from years past. I was instrumental in finding funding sources for 13 environmental contamination sites totaling 2.6 million dollars. Our air quality, water, and climate change are three categories that I will focus on. Managing air quality is a collective responsibility of individuals, businesses, institutions, and governments. Educating the public through grant programs and ensuring their participation in the air quality management process is critical. Public participation workshops are a great way to involve the community and identify best practices.
In my effort to bring more communication from the Colorado US congressional district 5 position, I will champion public participation by forming air advisory groups to receive input and enable meaningful, productive decision making.
